Tell FedEx To Stop Shipping Dolphins!

Last week, activists from Animal Rights Hawaii videoed FedEx employees packing up three live dolphins into transport boxes. The shipping destination? The Arizona desert, where Dolphinaris, a new swim-with-dolphin facility, will be opening soon.  Dolphins don’t belong in boxes, and they don’t belong in the desert. Tell FedEx to stop shipping wild animals unless its solely for their safety –and tell Dolphinaris to send the dolphins to a seaside sanctuary where they belong and can be evaluated for potential rehabilitation and release to the wild.

Dolphinaris has confirmed that the three dolphins, shipped from the Dolphin Quest facility on O’ahu, have already arrived in the desert. An additional five dolphins were recently transported to the facility from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California.

Forcing dolphins to live in the desert makes as little sense as flying them 30,000 feet in the air – but the people who claim to “own” these individuals clearly do not care about their well-being as much as the money, which all those involved in the transport have made in spades.

Dolphinaris is a new facility that earned a dishonorable mention on In Defense of Animals’ list of the 10 Worst Tanks for Dolphins and Whales in North America. This desert dolphin disaster has been constructed within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, which is a sovereign nation and therefore federal animal welfare regulations do not apply, increasing the risk to these dolphins who are already in a perilous situation.
