U.S. Zoos Want to Import Wild Elephants from Swaziland

We recently announced that three U.S. zoos are trying to import 18 wild elephants from Swaziland, a small, monarchy-run kingdom in Southern Africa. U.S. zoos are once again raiding the wild for elephants to put on display. The Dallas Zoo in Texas, Omaha Zoo in Nebraska, and Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas have applied to theU.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for permits to import these wild elephants from Swaziland. Most of these elephants are juveniles. We will not stand silently for this!

Joining the Facebook “Rumble” is one of several steps that we can take to prevent zoos from continuing to kidnap elephants from their families and their habitats (then causing them to suffer lonely and painful lives with only a premature death to look forward to). We must stop the madness!

Elephants are not thriving in U.S. zoos, where they are dying faster than they can be bred.

The practice of capturing and importing wild-caught elephants is archaic and inhumane, and it flies in the face of all we know about elephants’ intelligence, intricate social fabric, sensitivity and self-awareness. It is not only cruel to the individuals captured, but tears at the very heart of the mothers and other companions whom these elephants would normally spend the rest of their lives. The capture and import of wild African elephants will not stop unless the world raises its voice to say: African elephants belong in Africa! Stop elephant imports!
