Vet Team Faces Tough Case & Brings Renewed Life

The call came in to our  In Defense of Animals India Center at Turbhe, on June 14 of this year. Mrs. Aarti Chavan of Navi Mumbai said, “Dog not responding…almost not breathing…semi-conscious…is going to die…”

We answered the call immediately. From the size and depth of the stinking, maggot- infested wound, it was clear why the woman was so desperate. Our veterinarians, Dr. Jadhav and Dr. Londhe, did not think twice before taking on the challenge, which occurred during the hottest temperatures we have faced in several years.

The team began by applying medication to the wounds. and then, with tweezers, they manually pulled out each and every worm from the wound. This meant hours and hours of very concentrated, tireless work in the oppressive heat. The whole team chipped in, of course, working together stoically without giving up. After a few days, amazingly, the dog opened his eyes, and slowly got strength enough to stand up and then eat on his own. He was finally released on the 23rd, and in the presence of the caller, Mrs. Chavan.

He is fine now, healthy, and completely recovered. Miracles happen when there is dedication, commitment, and honesty in the work that we do.

These challenges are taken on without a thought by our vets and their team. Our deepest thanks and gratitude go out to them.
