Victory – California’s Foie Gras Ban Remains Intact

[singlepic id=232 w=320 h=240 float=right]Thanks to dedicated animal advocates like you, California bill SB 675 has been dropped! This bill was supposedly about Animal Welfare Standards. Many of us in the animal protection movement, however, suspected that the bill would be amended to allow for “humanely produced” foie gras. This would have negatively compromised California’s ban on the production and sale of this egregiously cruel “delicacy.”

Foie gras production is one of the most barbaric forms of animal agriculture. There is no possible humane way to ram a large metal pipe down the throats of ducks or geese and pump them full of food to enlarge their livers to over ten times the normal size. Birds endure vicious force-feedings three times a day which frequently choke, injure, or kill them by gouging their throats open.

There is no way to produce foie gras without force feeding. Therefore, there is no such thing as “humanely produced” foie gras. Any attempt to compromise the California foie gras ban is an obvious and outright support of animal cruelty!
