A recent research article published by the American Association for Cancer Research presented evidence that vegetarian and vegan diets provide protection against cancer. Second only to heart disease, cancer is a leading cause of death in the United States. Three out of ten cancers in Western countries are caused by what we eat.
The researchers examined omnivores, flexitarians, pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans and the occurrence of cancer in each of these groups. They found that there are direct links between diet and cancer risk. The researchers found that vegetarians exhibited significantly fewer occurrences of cancer. They also discovered that the vegan diet exhibited the most protection against overall cancer occurrence. Click here to download the full research article.
