Winter Condos for Community Cats

Winter Condos for Community Cats

Carol Purnell is a treasured In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary volunteer who began feeding a feral cat colony in a small town near our sanctuary.  This weekend, Carol and her husband Virgil, along with Operations Manager of Hope Animal Sanctuary Sharon Stone and her partner Charles Joseph, built five cat condos for these homeless kitties.  With temperatures forecasted to be in the teens this week, we knew the need was urgent. The newly made condos were placed in the woods where the cats and kittens now live without shelter.

A post on social media requesting old coolers which would be used for the cats brought a great response from the community.  Within an hour, five had been donated and more came the following day.  Those will be made into condos for other feral colonies in our area.

Since a group of people in the town feed the kitties, we plan to trap, spay and neuter and release them back to the only home they know.  Humans created the problem of feral cats by refusing to spay and neuter their animal companions.  Please help us spread the word on the value of spaying and neutering animals and please consider donating to In Defense of Animals to help us help more feral cats.
