Your Urgent Action Needed to Ban Bullhook Use

Your Urgent Action Needed to Ban Bullhook Use

Just this week, the Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife voted 12-2 in favor of SB 1062, the bill introduced by Senator Ricardo Lara to ban the use of cruel bullhooks on captive elephants.

Passing out of next Tuesday’s Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media is critical in order for this bill to take the next step towards becoming law.

We need to fill the room with elephant supporters!

If you live in or near the Sacramento State Capitol, please come out with your fellow elephant advocates and help to end bullhook abuse!

When: Tuesday, June 21, at 9:00 am SHARP (please come early!)

Where: Capitol Building, Room 437, Sacramento, CA

The bullhook or “ankus” is a steel rod resembling a sharpened fireplace poker. It is used to prod, hook and strike elephants, to dominate and control through fear of pain. This cruel and archaic device is frequently used by circuses, for elephant rides and even at zoos.

If you cannot attend the meeting, and your Assembly member is on the ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE, you can still help elephants by calling

YOUR California Assemblymember and urging his or her support for SB 1062.

Please use this link to find YOUR Assemblymember.

Once you’ve looked up your rep, please use this link to see if he or she is on the list of Arts & Entertainment Committee Members.

If so, please make the call. If not, please stay tuned for the next step when your Representative can help on the floor vote.

When you call, all you have to say is, “As a constituent, I urge you to please support SB 1062 to help protect elephants from cruel bullhook abuse.”

Thank you for helping to protect elephants from cruelty!
