Zoologist Moves to Morocco and Goes to the Dogs

Animals in Morocco face many threats, many from humans. One man, however, has decided to intervene.

Zoologist Karl Scarr, along with his wife, Sally, couldn’t stand idly by while so many animals were being mistreated. Opening an animal sanctuary, Scarr prioritized the many dogs in need above his own comfort by building the dogs’ housing before his own! He currently lives with the 150 dogs while waiting for his own house to be built. Dogs aren’t the only animals welcome, either. The Scarrs also care for cats, donkeys, a mule and a wild boar.

Scarr hopes to reach both the people and animals of Morocco through education programs, welfare legislation and setting out protocols for vaccination, sterilization and adoption.
