Dr. Sandra Higgins

Animal Activist Helpline referrals receive a discount (please inquire directly).

People seek psychological intervention not because there is anything inherently wrong with them, but because they have suffered. At times suffering can be so overwhelming that it becomes unbearable to carry the burden of it alone. The process of psychological intervention involves creating a safe and trusting space in which two or more people meet so that the individual does not have to suffer in isolation. In this sense, the therapeutic relationship is a type of sanctuary where clients are enabled to find the safety they need to explore and find resolution to their difficulties. Compassion Focussed Therapy fosters the sense of sanctuary necessary for healing by enabling clients to access and learn how to be gentle and compassionate towards themselves. Given the right conditions everyone can work through suffering. The role of psychological intervention is to help provide those conditions. Furthermore, given the right conditions, everyone can emerge more resilient, and enriched with insight, strength, compassion, and sensitivity, regardless of the depth of their suffering.

Services: Psychological assessment and intervention (online through Skype, email, and telephone).

Phyllis Levinson

Phyllis offers a free phone chat to find out if this coaching is right for you.

Your work is hard and you enjoy your ideal personal life. Your free time is filled with laughter, love and joy. Does this describe you? If so, congratulations. If not, you’re like many social change advocates whose personal well-being suffers because your cause is so big and the work is endless. Compassion fatigue sets in. Maybe burnout. It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to choose between your cause and your personal well-being. Coaching is where you learn to have both. Coaching is a customized process where you learn to put you back into your life. There is no such thing as “one size fits all.” We each have a unique combination of experiences, challenges and goals. In coaching, we focus on these details while never losing sight of the bigger picture.

Services: Coaching for individuals - weekly phone sessions and unlimited email exchange. Also offers coaching, workshops, and webinars for corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Specialty: Phyllis is a life coach, focused on serving social change advocates.

Credentials: Professional Certified Coach from the International Coach Federation. Certified Life and Executive Coach in private practice since 2002. Earned a Certificate of Achievement in Compassion Fatigue Resiliency from the Traumatology Institute.
