Grandmother Arrested for Saving Lives

Recently in Australia, 66 year old grandmother and founder of Animal Liberation Victoria, Patty Mark was arrested for her role in the rescue of abused hens from an atrocious factory farm.

Just two weeks after government health officials inspected the farm, Patty and fellow Australian activists discovered thousands of suffering birds living in appalling conditions. “It was filthy dirty,” Vice-president Patty Mark said, “We found sick and deformed hens left to die in cages. They were debilitated and exhausted, had severe feather loss and red-raw skin.”

Avian vet, Corrie Pinkster, from the Melbourne Bird Veterinary Clinic, examined one of the rescued chickens before she underwent surgery for an oviduct infection, a common affliction befalling laying hens. “We actually removed 1.2 kilograms of pus from a bird that weighs 2.3 kilograms, so it was literally half her body weight,” Dr Pinkster said.

Patty is currently facing charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage. Sadly, animal activists around the world continue to be punished for breaking laws to expose an unjust and hidden truth. What is wrong with a system that arrests someone trying to help abused animals, while ignoring the persons responsible for allowing those animals to suffer and die?
