10 Puppies in a Desperate Situation

10 Puppies in a Desperate Situation

On a Tuesday morning in early June,  staff at In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary we were made aware of 10 puppies in a terrible situation.  Their guardian had died in a tragic accident 4 days earlier.  The pups had not been fed since that very day!

We never know what we will find when we  go on a rescue mission, and that was surely the case with this one.  Animal caregivers, Felicia Dunn, Candi Daves, Shay Cole and Jeannie Grammer were dispatched to pick up the puppies.

We thought this would be an easy task; simply a matter of picking up 10 puppies and bringing them back to the sanctuary. When the young women entered the house, they found the pups covered in fleas with feces strewn all over the floor. With ammonia from the urine burning their eyes, they began to gather the pups.  Roaches were running everywhere, even crawling up the everyone’s legs!

Old plates of food sitting on the floor were also covered with roaches and flies.  Fleas were jumping on them as they moved through the house.  The tiny pups were very thin, and had skin issues from the fleas and the filth in which they were living.  Their little eyes were matted and red, burned from the strong ammonia smell in the house.   Their mother was not with them and we have been unable to locate her.

The pups are now safe at Hope Animal Sanctuary.  They will need weeks of care to resolve their medical issues and to help them to gain some much needed weight.  Your donations to In Defense of Animals  will allow us to rescue other pups that are in desperate need, just as these poor babies were.

Please help if you can, and please share if not. Thanks so much for caring!
