Alameda County, California: URGENT: Ban Cruel Rodeo Event in Alameda County
This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.
Mutton busting, an event where children jump on terrified sheep and ride them around an arena as the sheep struggle desperately to get free, will stop in Alameda County if the Board of Supervisors does the right thing next week.
Three brave Alameda County Supervisors have pledged to uphold a ban on this cruel “sport” on the 21st, and we need to let them know right now how much we appreciate them for standing up for the right for these gentle creatures to be safe from abuse in the name of entertainment.
Condemned by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, along with the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, mutton busting is slated to be axed from local rodeos at a meeting on May 21 due to the courage of Richard Valle, Wilma Chan, and Keith Carson.
Pressure on these board members from the special interests backing the rodeo is intense, so your voice as an Alameda County resident makes a big difference. Because this is a small, local fight, this is your big chance to make a meaningful difference for these defenseless sheep. Your supervisors want to hear from you!
