Korean Dog Saved From Chain Gets the Best Name, But Still Needs a Home!

“Free” might be the best possible name for a dog we rescued with our partner, Jindo Love Rescue, after he was found chained to a house so tightly he could barely even sit down. Before he could become another victim of the dog meat trade, he was whisked away and now he’s safe at our foster center in South Korea where he’s waiting to be adopted.

Free had spent most of his life chained without shelter or consistent access to food and water. Even when given something to eat or drink, he often wasn’t able to properly reach it. His supposed guardian was raising him to be a hunting dog or for meat, but he was in such poor condition it’s most likely he would have been killed.

His guardian initially refused to give him up, but finally caved in to pressure and surrendered him for a price in January, and we’re so glad he did.

When we rescued him, one of our volunteers named him Free and told him that he will never suffer like that again, that he would never be chained, starved, abused, sad, or tortured, but that he would be free from harm, and free to live the wonderful life that he has always deserved.

Despite never being shown love or affection from humans, Free is still filled with love himself. He absolutely loves people, and he’s very popular at our foster center with his dog friends, as well as our human foster mom and volunteers who visit.

Even though his nickname is literally “Mr. Popular,” this handsome two-year-old boy is still waiting for his forever home! We hope the perfect person or family finds him soon and the rest of his days are filled with nothing but love and joy — just like him.

You can help by sharing his story, learning how to adopt, and supporting our work to end the dog meat trade in South Korea.
