California: Ask Governor Brown to Sign the Iconic African Species Protection Act Today!

During the final night of this year’s state legislative session. the California Assembly passed SB 1487, also known as The Iconic African Species Protection Act. Thanks to all of you who called and emailed your legislators, Governor Jerry Brown will soon decide to sign or veto this crucial bill by September 30.

If signed, this Act will prohibit imports of eleven trophy-hunted species of African wildlife into California after January 1, 2019. Banning these imports would discourage trophy hunters from traveling to Africa to kill and bring back the dismembered body parts of innocent animals for profit. As residents of California, your calls and emails to the Governor will ensure trophy hunters are not allowed to import “trophies” from once living African elephants, African lions, leopards, black rhinoceroses, white rhinoceroses, giraffes, Jentink’s duikers, plains zebras, mountain zebras, hippopotamuses, and striped hyenas who were cruelly hunted down and killed. Please contact Governor Brown to make sure African wildlife is protected!

After this Act was introduced by Senator Henry Stern, you successfully convinced the California Senate and Assembly to pass this bill. One final effort is needed to make the Act an enforceable law. Please call Governor Brown today to tell him you want to keep the remains of African wildlife out of California!
