California: We’re Half-Way to Passing the Iconic African Species Protection Act!

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

Congratulations! Your calls and emails helped pass California’s Iconic African Species Protection Act— SB 1487 out of the Senate.  Now we need your help to get it passed in the Assembly. This Act will prohibit the possession and imports of eleven hunted species of African wildlife into California after January 1, 2019. This includes the body parts of lions, elephants, rhinoceroses and giraffes who have been killed by trophy hunters.

This bill is being fiercely opposed by Safari Club International, the National Rifle Association and the trophy-hunting lobby. This bill is necessary given the Trump Administration’s recent decision to forsake African wildlife by permitting “trophy” hunters to kill and then ship the lifeless bodies to their homes as if they were souvenirs.  African wild animals need you to take immediate action! Now is the time to call and email your state assembly member to make it pass!
