San Francisco Bay Area: Join the Respect for Fish Day Event
Fishes and all marine animals are sentient beings, just like land animals, who deserve to be respected and free. Join us in San Francisco for our annual Respect for Fish Day Event!
In Defense of Animals is hosting this day of outreach, storytelling, and fun, to celebrate sea life and the oceans. Animal advocates will be telling their Fish Tales — impactful personal stories about fish, why they stopped eating them, and sharing their knowledge to raise awareness about the 2.7 trillion marine animals who are killed every year for food. The stories will be filmed and photographed, some excerpts shared on our social media, and we have a few more spots open for you to share your stories too!
Team up with us to hand out literature and speak with the public to raise awareness about the magnificence of fishes and all marine life, and why we should leave them alone.
Be a part of a growing movement to change hearts and minds.
Scientific evidence concludes that fish feel pain and well-planned, plant-based vegan diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, appropriate for all stages of life, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Thus, we do not need to eat fish to survive and thrive.

“The sheer violence and cruelty of fishing is more than enough for me to abstain from eating fishes. They are sentient and intelligent, they have social lives and emotions. We ought to respect them and their habitats, both for their intrinsic value and their ecological importance.”
