Veganism is Booming — Tell IHOP to Get Cooking!

With the recent crash in stock for DineEquity, Inc., the owner of franchise names Applebee’s and International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurants, it should be obvious what the reason is. Many chains throughout the country, like Chipotle, Starbucks, and Taco Bell, are doing phenomenally because they have all made a pivotal change — they offer vegetarian and vegan-friendly menus.

DineEquity, Inc. continues to see falling sales. Meanwhile, Taco Bell, for example, saw a 5% sale increase in 2016. This can easily be part attributed to adding vegan fare to the menu. After all, 60% of millennials now consume plant-based meats. 36% of consumers now prefer milk alternatives, such as soy and almond, and the global plant-based (meat and dairy) market is projected to reach $25 billion by 2020!

IHOP needs to recognize this growing consumer market. Looking at the menu now, nothing is made with plant-based alternatives. You cannot even order almond milk if you are lactose intolerant. If IHOP were to extend its reach a little further to encompass items like plant-based milks and meats, non-dairy creams, and other healthier options, they would tap into a vast, and relatively untapped consumer base.

Join us now in calling on IHOP to move into the future by offering healthier, cruelty-free, and environmentally friendly menu options!
