Victory! Attempt to Increase California’s Beef Checkoff Program Fails
AB 243, a beef checkoff bill, has been pulled from California's Senate Judiciary Committee due to lack of support. The message is loud and clear: Californians do not want to spend money promoting beef products which cause harm to people's health, the planet, and immense animal suffering.
We are incredibly grateful to each and every In Defense of Animals supporter who called the Senate Judiciary Committee to speak out on behalf of animals, and we will remain vigilant for any new legislative attempts to revive it.
When the government has a vested interest in promoting the consumption of animal products, policies such as our dietary guidelines and school lunch programs are compromised. Learn more about Checkoff Programs here.
