In Defense of Animals at California State Capitol in Support of AB 485!

We are so grateful to our California supporters for urging Governor Jerry Brown to sign AB 485 into law! The In Defense of Animals team journeyed up to Sacramento to personally deliver over 1,200 letters in support of this bill last Friday.

If passed, AB 485 will require pet stores in California to obtain dogs, cats, and rabbits from shelters and rescues rather than from backyard breeders and puppy mills.

Time is of the essence, as Governor Brown has only until Sunday, October 15th  by midnight to either sign, let pass into law unsigned, or veto AB 485.

Please continue to urge Governor Jerry Brown to sign this bill with a quick call; the animals of California need this win!

California Residents:

Call California Governor, Jerry Brown, and kindly ask him to sign AB 485.

  • Phone number: (916) 445-2841
  • Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish.
  •  Press 4 to speak with a representative.

When you call, you can simply say, "As a California tax-payer I am so happy that  AB 485 has passed the Senate. It is vital for shelter animals and the California budget, that pet stores obtain their animals from shelters and rescues rather than puppy, kitten, and rabbit mills. Please ask Jerry Brown to sign bill AB 485 into law on my behalf!”
