Answering an Urgent Call to Help Puppies in Distress

When a deputy with the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office asked our Hope Animal Sanctuary for help with puppies, we knew the situation was urgent. A caller contacted the Sheriff’s Office to request help with multiple puppies and adult dogs and stated that the puppies were getting under the feet of her 85-year-old father, who she feared would trip and fall.

Upon arrival at the caller’s residence, our team saw three pups who were approximately three months old as well as another three adult dogs. The homeowner met us and explained there were 3 additional puppies at her father’s’ mobile home next door, who were younger and nursing. We were followed by all six of the dogs as we walked to the father’s residence.

Three tiny puppies appeared from under a parked vehicle at the residence. The pups were very thin and infested with fleas. The homeowner explained there had been a total of four puppies at her father’s home just two days before our visit. The mother dog “bit” one of the puppies while they were desperately trying to nurse, and stated that she had not seen the injured puppy in two days. Although we searched extensively, we were unable to find the missing puppy.

We left the property with the six puppies and returned a few days later to retrieve the adult dogs. The puppies and adult dogs are safe and doing well at our Sanctuary.  When they are ready, they will be placed in loving homes. For now, they are getting a lot of love and attention from our dedicated staff.
