A Colorado woman is facing felony animal cruelty charges after being accused of tossing her neighbor's beloved cat to her dogs. Demand maximum penalties in this case.
 

Lindsey Hodges-Hough describes how her 15-year-old son's cat, Tobi, was outside when her neighbor, Ashley Losey, picked up and brought Tobi inside her home, then tossed Tobi out her back door to her dogs in the backyard. Tobi ran for his life, but couldn't escape and was killed by the dogs.

Hodges-Hough and Losey have been in a years-long neighbor dispute that led Hodges-Hough to install surveillance cameras. According to arrest records, these cameras captured Losey tossing Tobi to her dogs in her backyard.

If convicted, Losey could be sentenced to two to six years' imprisonment, a fine of $2,000 to $550,000, applicable restitution, three years of parole upon release, a mental health evaluation, and any court-ordered anger management or mental health treatment, and a court-ordered prohibition on possessing or having custody of animals.

A family is now grieving their cherished animal companion. This horrific case demands accountability and the strongest penalties possible. No animal should endure such a terrifying and violent death.

Subject: Seek Maximum Penalties for Tobi the Cat’s Brutal Killing

As a supporter of In Defense of Animals, I am writing to urge your office to prosecute Ashley Losey to the fullest extent of the law in connection with the alleged killing of Tobi, a beloved cat.

According to arrest records, Losey allegedly picked up Tobi, brought him into her home, and then tossed him out her back door to her dogs in the backyard, where he was chased and killed. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident. Tobi was a cherished animal companion whose family, including a 15-year-old boy, is now grieving his violent and preventable death.

The allegations in this case are exceptionally disturbing. Deliberately placing a defenseless animal in mortal danger demonstrates a profound disregard for life and public safety. Tobi reportedly ran for his life, but he could not escape. No animal should be terrorized and killed in this way.

I respectfully ask your office to pursue every applicable charge supported by the evidence and, upon conviction, seek the maximum penalties permitted under Colorado law. These should include six years of imprisonment, a substantial fine up to $550,000, full restitution, three years of parole upon release, a comprehensive mental health evaluation, all appropriate court-ordered anger management or mental health treatment, and the longest legally permissible prohibition on possessing, keeping, or having custody of animals.

A meaningful sentence is necessary not only to secure justice for Tobi and his grieving family but also to deter similar acts of cruelty. Animal abuse must never be dismissed as a private neighborhood dispute. When an animal is intentionally harmed or killed, the conduct demands a serious and proportionate response.

Please ensure that Tobi’s life and suffering are fully considered throughout this prosecution. I urge your office to hold the responsible party accountable and pursue the strongest outcome the evidence and law allow.
