Cats Beheaded & Their Heads Boxed Up & Placed on Neighbor’s Mailbox

A Florida man is facing felony charges after allegedly killing two cats and leaving their heads in a box on top of another resident's mailbox. Demand maximum sentencing in this case.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call from a Bonita Springs resident who had discovered the cats' heads in a cardboard box left on top of her mailbox on March 13, 2025. Sheriff Marceno's Animal Cruelty Task Force was called to assist and responded by canvassing the neighborhood. With the use of license plate readers, DNA evidence that the task force collected, and cell phone videos of the brutalized cats narrating their fates, they had a strong and viable suspect.

Robert Luther III was found fishing behind a nearby business. Despite his invoking his rights and refusal to cooperate with the detectives, the evidence found was probable cause for his arrest. In Florida, aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated stalking are both classified as third-degree felonies. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of aggravated stalking that each carry a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment for both types of charges, meaning there's a possibility of a 20-year sentence.
"Heinous violent acts, especially toward innocent animals, are beyond unacceptable and any offender will face severe consequences to the fullest extent of the law. The combined efforts of multiple units ensured this sick individual got locked behind bars before he could hurt anyone else.” — Sheriff Carmine Marceno

Subject: Man Who Beheaded Cats and Placed Them on Mailbox Deserves Maximum Sentence
I am writing to you to support the prosecution of Robert Luther III on two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of aggravated stalking.
On March 13, 2025, Luther was arrested on probable cause for beheading two cats, placing their heads in a cardboard box, and exhibiting them on the mailbox of an unsuspecting neighborhood resident. You can imagine the distress the woman experienced discovering such a display of sadism.
As you are undoubtedly aware, in Florida, aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated stalking are both classified as third-degree felonies. Because he was charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of aggravated stalking, which each carry a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment for both types of charges, there is the possibility of a 20-year sentence.
Luther’s bent for cruelty must be considered in his prosecution and hopefully his sentencing. He must not be allowed to plead his way out of a meaningful prison sentence and must also be ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment in tandem with the maximum sentence for each count of his deplorable crime. He should also have a lifetime ban on contact with animals.
I will be following this case to its fruition and ask that my letter be submitted to the presiding judge during the sentencing phase of Luther’s trial.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Signed
