Official Who Slowly Starved Her Adopted Pup to Death Must Be Strongly Prosecuted

April Sloane, a County Controller serving in Pennsylvania, admitted that her dog had died "due to not being properly cared for" but it's way worse than that. She allowed her dog to slowly starve to death once his role in her election victory was over. We must insist on strong sentencing, including a long prison sentence, for an official who thought that she was above the law.

An anonymous tip (which was later found to have originated from one of April Sloane's two sons who started a Facebook group to expose her) led to a search warrant being served on Washington County, Pennsylvania Controller April Sloane's home by the North Strabane Township Police on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Upon the return of the necropsy results, she was arrested at her workplace about a week later for the starvation of Thor, a puppy she had adopted in April of 2021 who died on November 27, 2023. It seems like his appearance in Sloane's life was no more than a photo opportunity to win an upcoming election. Once Thor had served his purpose, he was treated like trash and suffered while unwanted and discarded. Thor's lifeless body was found wrapped in a garbage bag in Sloane's basement. It was estimated that Thor had been dead for almost two weeks at the time of his body's discovery by investigators.

In Defense of Animals

Thor's necropsy determined that he had no body fat and weighed only twenty pounds. Thor had no bodily injuries nor did he test for disease. He had slowly and painfully starved to death.

Sloane's son told investigators that Thor lived in “deplorable” conditions and said that he had asked his mother to take him to the veterinary clinic which was just a mere 500 feet from their residence. She refused.

Sloane was arrested for aggravated animal cruelty on Tuesday, December 12. Her initial appearance was on December 19 and her position as county controller is in jeopardy, as it should be. She should no longer serve and should spend a long time in jail instead of in office.
