Support Felony Cruelty Charges for Deaths of More Than 30 Dogs at Fake Rescue

Three Coastal Mississippi hoarders were uncovered in under a month, but the horrors found on the property of one operating as a “rescue” were particularly stunning. More than 30 dead dogs were found, along with a lone survivor, but their abuser is only being charged with misdemeanors and one felony. Urge the prosecutor to up the charges to felony cruelty for all counts!

The horrors of this case were discovered at Deep South Animal Rescue's property in Saucier, Mississippi in February when volunteers came to help move the rescue to a new location. Everywhere they aided with breaking down and loading crates and dog houses there were dead dogs.

Bodies of dogs were found all over, with many in bags or burned, and in varying states of decomposition. A woman who was notified about the situation checked it out and contacted Harrison County Animal Control to report what she had witnessed.

A warrant was issued and the disposal of 30 deceased dogs, and the rescue of an emaciated lab who had been locked in a shed without ventilation, food, or water, along with a deceased buzzard, began. On March 3, Jessica Collins was arrested under the direction of Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson. She was charged with 30 misdemeanor counts of cruelty and one felony count of cruelty.

Collins also surrendered 14 dogs she was keeping on a property in Pass Christian who were taken in by the Humane Society of Southern Mississippi. She is due back in court on August 12, 2022.

The prosecutor has rebuffed advocates who have attempted to reason with him, but the law in Mississippi was updated to allow for a first offense felony for each dog or cat who has been killed with malice.
