Demand Justice for Dog Whose Legs Were Sawed Off!

A small, dog named Buddy was found lying in the rain after his back legs were hacked off by the “guardians” responsible for his care. Buddy required a blood transfusion and surgery to treat his severe injuries, which will impact him negatively for the rest of his life. We must demand that the monsters responsible for dismembering and leaving Buddy to die alone receive the maximum sentencing possible!

At the end of September 2019, Buddy, a small Dachshund-Chihuahua mix, was discovered by a kind person in a Slidell, Louisiana mobile home park near Highway 11. Buddy’s hind legs had been brutally amputated, leaving him immobilized and forcing him to suffer alone in agony and fear for an unknown amount of time. Buddy was taken to Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital in Mandeville, Louisiana, to treat the wounds he sustained from the unthinkably deranged individuals who cut off his back legs.

An ensuing investigation into this horrific crime by St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives led to the arrest of Buddy’s “guardians” who are the following: a yet unnamed mother, her 17-year-old daughter, and her daughter’s 17-year old friend.

On September 30, 2019, the mother was arrested and charged with animal cruelty for not providing medical treatment for her suffering dog. The daughter was charged with aggravated animal cruelty for admittedly severing Buddy’s back legs and was detained in the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center in Covington, Louisiana. Her friend was charged with animal cruelty after admitting to abandoning Buddy in the mobile home park and was released.

Under Louisiana state law, a charge of simple animal cruelty LA R.S. 102.1 (2) (a.) carries a penalty of up to a $1,000 fine, six months incarceration, or both, and the convicted perpetrator may not be involved with or have animals for a period determined by the court.

A charge of aggravated animal cruelty LA. R. S. 14. 102.1 (b) (6) carries a $5,000 - $25,000 fine or imprisonment, with or without hard labor, for one to ten years, or both. The offender is to undergo a psychological evaluation and any subsequently recommended psychological treatment and is be banned by the court order from “owning” or keeping animals for a period of time deemed appropriate by the court.

When questioned, the daughter claimed that Buddy was shot in February, which caused him to become paralyzed. She continued to insist that Buddy’s legs “fell off” because they had become sore from the tight bandages she or her mother had wrapped around his hind legs.

Due to his gruesome injuries, Buddy required a blood transfusion, and X-rays revealed two bullets lodged in his back. Attending veterinarian, Dr. Lee Capone, determined that Buddy was not paralyzed as the daughter falsely claimed, and that Buddy has use of his nubs. Dr. Capone further stated that it was his opinion Buddy’s injuries were ”maliciously inflicted,” possibly with a hack saw or blade.

Buddy is now in the care of Dante's Hope Rescue East and is expected to need additional surgery. He will receive a mobile device when he is well enough to move around. At this time, the name of the mother has not been released and attempts to learn her name were not successful. We will pursue this horrific case and will keep you updated.
