On August 6, Brooke Houts, a YouTube content creator and social media influencer with more than 325,000 YouTube subscribers, mistakenly uploaded a video to her channel showing her slapping, shoving, apparently spitting on, and otherwise brutalizing her Doberman dog, Sphinx. Join us in asking the Los Angeles Police and the District Attorney to charge and prosecute Houts for animal cruelty and in asking YouTube to remove Houts' content from its site.

Houts was filming what she hoped would work as a prank for her YouTube channel that she was playing on her dog, Sphinx. She had taped up cellophane across a doorway and was trying to get Sphinx to run through the doorway and into the cellophane. It's unclear if the prank worked because Houts mistakenly uploaded the outtakes version of the video to her channel, which included her slapping, shoving, and apparently spitting on Sphinx. The video is quite upsetting and can be viewed below, but viewer discretion is advised.

The video of Houts’ abuse of Sphinx is so shocking that even her fellow community of YouTube content creators are asking for YouTube to take action and remove her from the platform. We agree.

Houts is clearly using Sphinx as a prop for her channel to gain views and subscribers and has uploaded several very popular videos of Sphinx which have received millions of views. This makes the glimpse into what happens to poor Sphinx behind the scenes all the more heartbreaking.

Please join us in asking YouTube to remove Houts' content and asking the Los Angeles Police and the District Attorney to charge and prosecute Houts for the abuse she subjected Sphinx to in this video.
