A former town official in Fairfield, Connecticut, who was charged with abusing two dogs and killing a cat has once again been arrested and charged for another incident of animal cruelty. Please urge the state's attorney to seek maximum penalties in this case and ensure this serial abuser can't hurt any more animals!

Raymond Neuberger was first charged with animal cruelty in 2018 after injuring his then-fiancee's Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Thor and Charlie; he poured boiling water on Thor and fractured several of Charlie's ribs. Although he claimed to have spilled hot coffee on Thor, veterinarians notified authorities after determining the injuries were too severe to have been caused by a spill.

Neuberger spent 41 days in jail and was sentenced to two years of probation. In 2022, he was charged with animal cruelty again, in addition to assault and disorderly conduct after attacking a new girlfriend and torturing her cat, Gem, while she wasn't home. Gem had been doused in bleach and veterinarians found Gem, who didn't survive, had suffered “head trauma, collapsed lungs, a ruptured liver, and a broken fang.”

While charges are still pending on the last case, this month he was arrested again and charged with animal cruelty after a former roommate of Gem's guardian filed a complaint alleging that Neuberger abused another cat named Pearl who they shared in February 2022. Pearl reportedly suffered severe burns while left alone with Neuberger, including being burned by a chemical "down to the muscle" on her abdomen, and required extensive treatment.
