Here's How You Can Support Student Activists

Do you know any young activists who are searching for direction? If so, please encourage them to tune into our upcoming Sustainable Activism Webinar with student activist Annie Blumenfeld, to whom we awarded a $500 donation towards her nonprofit Wags 4 Hope for Activist Appreciation Month.

Annie started Wags 4 Hope in 2012 when she was just 14 years old after adopting Teddy, a rescue dog with heartworm, who was crated for more than a month and stabilized with arsenic injections to eliminate worms in his heart and lungs. Annie’s experience with her beloved Teddy inspired her to start Wags 4 Hope. She says, “Animals with severe medical conditions are the first to be euthanized because these shelters do not have the time nor funds to treat them. It further broke my heart to learn that this disease could have been avoided with a monthly preventative.”

Now Wags 4 Hope is a nonprofit which raises awareness about heartworm disease, supports shelter animals' medical needs, and encourages responsible guardianship. Annie says the hardest part was getting started, “You do not have to initiate a large scale fundraiser in order to make a difference in the lives of animals. Your involvement can range from sharing a Facebook post about an issue to making chew toys to donate to a local animal shelter.”

Annie shares her story and advice for activists of all ages on our next Sustainable Activism Webinar on Thursday, April 6, 5:00 p.m. – 6 p.m. PST (8:00 p.m. – 9 p.m. EST). You can join this live webinar via phone or online. For an optimal experience, please log in to the meeting from your Chrome browser. Please note that if you choose not to receive In Defense of Animals emails, you won’t receive the webinar details.
