Tell Congress to Reject Funding to the NIH for More Primate Experiments

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

Monkeys used in experiments live appalling existences – they are kept in cages, force-fed caustic substances, and subjected to torturous tests while immobilized in restraint chairs. Congress is currently considering a request from the National Institutes of Health to include an additional $10 million in taxpayer dollars in the federal budget for 2025 to support experiments on monkeys. Urge Congress to reject this request and deny support to the National Institutes of Health for primate experimentation.

In Defense of Animals

Testing on monkeys has been shown to be very unreliable in regard to similar outcomes on humans. More than 90% of the drugs tested on other-than-human animals, primates included, fail in human trials. On an ethical level, monkeys who are used for experimentation are subjected to extremely cruel procedures in which they are separated from their mothers at a young age and experience significant pain, fear, and trauma.

Instead of spending millions of taxpayer dollars on monkey experimentation, Congress should be endorsing non-animal technologies that do not subject sensitive animals to horrifying testing procedures and are far more reliable in terms of human outcomes.

Subject: Tell Congress to Reject Funding to the NIH for More Primate Experiments

I am writing to urge you to help prevent $10 million in taxpayer money of funding requested by the National Institutes of Health to increase primate experiments from being included in the 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations bill or any future funding bills.

Please take a stand against this atrocity and be on the right side of history. Thank you for your consideration of this urgent matter.

Sincerely,

Signed
