Connecticut Residents: Join an Event to Celebrate Lobsters, Not Eat Them

Connecticut Residents: Join an Event to Celebrate Lobsters, Not Eat Them

We are coming together in observation of National Lobster Day to encourage people to choose compassion and honor the lives of lobsters instead of eating them.

Join In Defense of Animals and G-Monkey plant-based restaurant on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. to raise awareness of the cruelty of eating lobsters, and have a bit of fun celebrating their lives! The event will be held at G-Monkey’s restaurant location in West Hartford, Connecticut.

September 25 is National Lobster Day, traditionally a day about celebrating and encouraging the consumption of lobster. In Defense of Animals is co-opting the day’s message to instead celebrate the lives of lobsters, encourage kindness toward them, and foster awareness of their plights. Our event aims to be informative and fun with informational packets, a discount for vegan food, and photo opportunities!

Research has proven that lobsters are capable of feeling pain and fear and that they do so during the majority of their journey to your plate.

Lobsters react to pain and negative stimuli in ways that are similar to vertebrates by grooming and rubbing affected areas. They also retain memories of that pain. Lobsters do not have the ability to go into shock and so they feel intense excruciating pain when they are boiled alive.

G-Monkey is a plant-based restaurant offering delicious vegan fast food including several plant-based seafood substitutes. Use the code savethelobster10 to get 10% off of your meal during our event, and stop by to take some photos with our human-sized lobster and learn more about these magnificent animals!
