Victory! Washington Bans Brutal Wild Animal Killing Contests

We’re thrilled to report fantastic news! Coyotes, bobcats, crows, foxes, and raccoons in Washington just got a reprieve from becoming unwilling participants in brutal wild animal killing contests, which reward hunters for killing the most, the largest, or even the smallest animals with cash and prizes.

We applaud the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission for voting to pass a ban on these brutal killing sprees. Washington is now the seventh state in the nation to pass a ban on many kinds of killing contests along with Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Vermont.

Over 1,427 animals were massacred in Washington killing contests between 2013 and 2018. The new rule will spare countless wild animals from being targeted and killed in these cruel events.

What’s especially impressive about Washington’s ban is that it protects crows, who are usually not included in killing contest bans.

We couldn’t have achieved victory for these animals without you! Thanks to your support and the hard work from a coalition of animal protection organizations, many wild animal species in yet another state will no longer be victims of competitive killing sprees.

No animal deserves to die in bloody killing contests. We will fight to protect wild animals wherever any kind of animal killing contest continues, as well as the hunting and killing of “game animals,” “pests,” “predators,” birds, mammals, and fish!

Stay tuned for similar campaigns in Oregon, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, and New Jersey. Contact us to help wild animals in your state and please consider making a generous gift to fund our lifesaving work for wild animals!
