No More Tule Elk Killing: Ranchers Out, Fences Down!
This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.
The California Coastal Commission must end Tule elk deaths at Point Reyes National Seashore – by finally kicking the cattle industry out. Cattle ranchers are polluting this national park's land and waterways with tons of cow manure, while keeping five thousand cattle captive on public land. Cattle ranchers making a profit is also why the park's Tule elk are fenced in — killing hundreds of them in recent years. More Tule elk will die this year unless action is taken!
The California Coastal Commission must withdraw its previous “conditional concurrence,” given a year ago, for the atrocious new Point Reyes park management plan, which maintains the deadly status quo of manure-polluted land and waterways, hundreds of miles of fences, dying Tule elk, and rancher profits.
The cattle industry is actively polluting Point Reyes. The hundreds of miles of fences are maintained for the beef and dairy ranchers at taxpayer expense. The millions of pounds of feces left behind by all these contained animal prisoners contaminate Point Reyes prairies, streams, bays, and the Pacific Ocean. Cattle-exploiting operations have no business in this — or any — national park.
The National Park Service keeps promising to clean up the excessive ranch manure, yet never does. Because it can't. Cattle operations generate massive amounts of manure and climate-heating methane; an extensive new water quality report documents just how badly these ranchers are polluting the park.
You can make a critical difference. Help free the magnificent Tule elk of Point Reyes National Seashore, and save hundreds more elk lives.

Letter to Decision Maker(s) for reference:
Subject: Remove polluting cattle ranchers from Point Reyes National Seashore — and free hundreds of Tule elk!
I write to express how upset I am that beef and dairy ranchers are still being allowed to confine approximately 5,000 cattle in national parkland at Point Reyes National Seashore, grossly polluting our taxpayer-supported land for their own personal profit.
No matter what mitigation measures are implemented, the huge numbers of cattle who are unnaturally concentrated on this land will continue to produce gargantuan amounts of urine and feces — and emit massive amounts of methane. Inevitably some — or a lot — of this has and will continue to grossly contaminate the park’s waterways, land, and atmosphere. This is unacceptable and deeply disturbing.
I respectfully implore you NOT to allow this unjustifiable pollution of Point Reyes to continue one day longer. Please retract your Conditional Consistency Determination granted last year. Put a long overdue end to the devastation of Point Reyes by commercial cattle operations that have for years been in violation of clean water regulations.
Sincerely,
Signed
