WATCH: Actor Peter Coyote Speaks Out for Point Reyes Tule Elk
In a new video, Actor Peter Coyote adds his famous voice, and his passion for justice, to a noble cause: freeing wild Tule elk from their deadly, fenced confinement at California’s Point Reyes National Seashore.
Peter joins In Defense of Animals in calling to free the Tule elk from their lethal so-called “Reserve.” Hundreds of these magnificent animals have died, slowly and agonizingly, from hunger and thirst in recent years.
Point Reyes was created to be a protected home for wild animals to roam free, but fences installed for commercial cattle exploitation operations prevent Tule elk from reaching life-sustaining food and water.
Cattle ranchers lease public land for private profit at this public Seashore for half-market value rates, and Peter joins the call to remove them from this public park. Millions of pounds of manure from the thousands of confined and abused cattle are also the park’s leading source of land, water, and atmospheric pollution.
In Defense of Animals is grateful — and thrilled — to have Peter’s help in raising public awareness, and increasing political pressure, to restore federal policy to protect wildlands and the wild animals who need their home — not big business — in a national park. He joins other high profile supporters of our campaign including actor Alexandra Paul, NBA sports personality Bonnie-Jill Laflin, and The Cove director Louie Psihoyos.
