No More Dead Tiger Mascots

No More Dead Tiger Mascots

Mike the tiger just died of cancer. He was held captive by Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mike has actually been a series of six miserable caged tigers, with each successive Mike being replaced once he dies. Since the last Mike died, LSU is looking to replace him with yet another suffering tiger who will be named Mike. Let’s end the abuse! No more Mikes!

Each Mike is used as the graphic image of LSU sports. On home football game days, Mike is wheeled in his cage and parked by the opponent’s locker room. With his cage topped by LSU cheerleaders, Mike is pushed through “Tiger Stadium” before the start of home game.

Mike is the name of both the live and costumed mascots. Since 1925, LSU has had six different tigers and kept them all captive in inappropriate conditions and mind-numbing confinement.
