Global March Marched On!

Global March Marched On!

Last weekend, thousands of people around the world took peacefully to the streets (some even to the rivers and oceans in procession) to support elephants and rhinos with one united voice. It was a march against extinction. The only hope for these amazing animals lies in an immediate end to the legal and illegal ivory and rhino trade, providing a decent chance for these populations to recover from immeasurable slaughter and trauma.

IDA was honored to be part of the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos. As we marched in San Francisco, we stopped to gather outside the Chinese Consulate office and ended at the UN Plaza for speakers and gathering. In Los Angeles, we also assembled at the Chinese Consulate and some of us represented individual elephants who had been murdered for their ivory – some of whom trusted us as tourists and researchers to be near their families. Last year, the Global March occurred in over 136 cities and towns across six continents. The numbers are still coming in for this year’s March.

An elephant is being killed every 15 minutes for his or her tusks. A rhino is killed every 8 hours for his or her horns. No one needs tusks or horns, except those who were born with them! Please stay with us as we continue to work, march, and do all we can, to advocate for peace and life for elephants and rhinos – and all other animals. IDA thanks everyone who marched or did your part, everywhere! Special thanks to Michelle and Don Crow from Seattle who marched with us in San Francisco and held the IDA banner for the entire March.
