Go Vegan for the Holidays!

Inspire Others with Your Vegan Story!

IDA invites you to encourage others to take the vegan challenge in 2015 by sharing your vegan story, a campaign initiated by Australia’s Animal Liberation Victoria that has spread internationally. The goal is to unite animal advocacy organizations worldwide in this vegan outreach effort. Your story can be brief, a couple of sentences, as long as you follow it with these three hashtags: #MyVeganStory #NewYearsResolution #VeganEasyChallenge. The last two hashtags indicate who decided to try veganism to follow their progress and direct them to Vegan Easy’s 30-Day Vegan Challenge.

Research shows that one of the most effective ways of influencing people is through story telling. If every vegan shares how and why they went vegan on their favorite social media sites (Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) with the hashtags, it will trend across all social media sites and spread virally. Post your ‘Vegan Story’ between the December 26th and January 1st to inspire people to go vegan for their New Year’s resolutions.

Great minds think alike! IDA Founder and President Emeritus Dr. Elliot Katz recently encouraged his Facebook followers to do the same:

Dear Friends,

It takes awareness, self-control, kindness, and compassion to break the meat and dairy eating habits we were raised on for many years. No animals are mistreated as horribly as cows, calves, pigs, chickens and turkeys before being killed by the billions. Unfortunately, deeply caring people can still sit down to enjoy a hamburger, a steak, a pork chop, fried chicken, or a glass of milk. We have all done it at one point or another in our lives.

If you have moved to a plant-based and dairy-free diet, please share your stories so I may share them with others. What made you make the shift, at what age, and what were the experiences and motivations that led you to make the changes? What pressures from family, friends, and business associates did you overcome? What benefits have you gotten from the experience? What was the hardest part?

The meat, dairy, restaurant industries, and our government have done an excellent job in misinforming and morally blinding us. Your personal stories can open up the minds and hearts of others. Thank you for your compassion, caring, and for your willingness to educate others thereby helping to end the pain, suffering, and deaths of billions of innocent precious beings.

Respectfully,
With the Deepest of Appreciation,
Elliot M. Katz, DVM

Here is Dr. Katz’ Vegan Story:

As an ardent anti-vivisectionist focusing on the animal cruelty at UC Berkeley in the 1980’s, I recall asking fellow activists on my way out to lunch, “Does anyone want a hamburger?” When I saw the astonished look on one activist’s face, I realized the inherent contradiction between my beliefs and actions. At that moment, I began my vegan journey, which forever changed my life for the better. #MyVeganStory #NewYearsResolution #VeganEasyChallenge.
