Massacre by Microchip?

Massacre by Microchip?

Massacre by Microchip?

Back in August, we told you about the Australian government’s plan to systematically kill 2 million feral cats over the next five years. The plan is to kill these feral cats with poisons, traps, guns, and tracker dogs, and will be implemented under the guise of protecting native species. The killing campaign, lead by Australian Environment Minister Greg Hunt, mistakenly blames feral cats rather than humans for declining populations of certain native species. Now we’ve heard the even more outrageous news that poisoned microchips implanted into prey animals will be used on these cats as well. Insane, right?

These proposed methods of trapping, poisoning, and killing are inhumane and are also ineffective. When feral cat colonies are killed off, typically a new population of feral cats moves in and reproduces to fill the void left by the cats who were killed. More effective solutions include administration of birth control or performing trap, neuter, return (TNR) programs. These are the only practical and humane solutions to reducing Australia’s feral cat population.

You can help these vulnerable felines by opposing Australia’s mass killing initiative before it’s too late and the feral cats pay with their lives. Please tell the Australian government to rethink its position and to implement smarter, more humane solutions for controlling the feral cat population. We must stop this slaughter before it begins.

If you have not already signed our alert asking the Australian government to halt its plans to exterminate 2 million feral cats, please do so here.
