Remember Safety This 4th of July

Remember Safety This 4th of July

It is shocking, but true that more animals become separated from their human families on the 4th of July than on any other day of the year! Most end up dying alone and heartbroken in unfamiliar shelters because they don’t get picked back up or found in time.

It’s important to understand just how horrifying for many animals this holiday is and to do your best to lessen the impact on your animal companions. Many animals have very sensitive hearing, and the chronic bangs and booms of fireworks are frightening especially when the source of the noise is not understood. The impulse to run takes over, so you need to make sure your animals are inside early, with all the doors secured, and the windows closed, and collar and tags on everyone, just in case.

Understand that normally calm and well behaved animals can become spooked and irrational, and behave in ways you can’t predict.

If you can arrange it, plan to be home and find the most soundproof area of your home and set up a nice, secured area for you and them to stay until the fireworks are over. Playing soft music may help as well.

Please share and save a life or two!
