In Defense of Animals Offers $2,500 Reward in Horrific Dog Abuse Case

Carroll County “Bait Dog” Found Horribly Wounded and Dumped in a Ditch

Grenada, Miss. (March 17, 2015) – In Defense of Animals (IDA), the international animal protection organization that operates Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS) in Grenada, Mississippi is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the horrific abuse of a dog found horribly mauled with wounds consistent with dog fighting. The dog, named Lila Grace, was found by kind and caring people after she was dumped in a ditch along Mississippi State Highway 430 in Black Hawk, Mississippi. Lila Grace suffered wounds consistent with having been used as a “bait dog” for dog fighting – she was unmercifully and repeatedly mauled to instill a lust for fighting in the attacking dog. Unfortunately, due to the severity of her injures, she did not survive.

A family residing on Highway 430 contacted HAS seeking assistance for a dog they found that they believed had been struck by a vehicle. They scooped her up from the roadside ditch and brought her to their home where they tried to make her as comfortable as possible, providing her with a soft bed, food, and water. HAS Director Doll Stanley and Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Therrell Turner immediately responded to the call for help. Upon arrival at the residence, it became immediately clear to Director Stanley that Lila Grace’s injuries were not a random act, but instead a very deliberate and despicable act of animal cruelty. She had been heartlessly and systematically subjected to countless attacks in which the crushing and tearing teeth of another dog, or dogs, had left her mortally wounded and dumped to slowly dying all alone in a wet, dank ditch.

Lila Grace’s front legs were so severely broken and shredded they were necrotic and lifeless. Director Stanley said of the incident, “There was no decision to be made. The person who abused her sealed her fate and Lila Grace was mercifully euthanized. There’s no clearing the slate, no making up for the hell this gentle dog endured. Our focus now is on bringing the monsters that tortured Lila Grace to justice.”

Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the horrendous death of Lila Grace should contact Hope Animal Sanctuary by calling or texting Director Doll Stanley (662) 809-4483 or Operations Manager Sharon Stone (662) 466-0906.
