WATCH: Building a Safer Sanctuary at Freedom Farms

To kick off 2026, and thanks to our generous donors, In Defense of Animals is excited to announce the construction of a brand-new, animal-friendly fence at Freedom Farms!

Over the past several years, our existing fence has steadily worn down due to weather exposure and general wear and tear. More recently, our curious and clever cows have discovered a few weak spots, leading to several adventurous breakouts that required our care team to gently guide them back to their proper pastures. While we can’t blame them for wanting to explore every corner of Freedom Farms, ensuring the safety and well-being of our cows—and all the animals who call this sanctuary home—is our top priority.

That’s why we knew it was time for an upgrade. Over the past few months, our team has conducted thorough research, consulted with experts on humane and wildlife-friendly fencing, and carefully evaluated the best options for the land and animals. We’re proud to be partnering with the highly respected local vendor, 101 Fencing, whose expertise and commitment to animal safety align perfectly with our mission.

The new fence will not only provide a more secure environment for our cows, but it will also be designed to accommodate the diverse wildlife that moves through the property, helping maintain a safe and harmonious ecosystem at Freedom Farms.

Construction began in late January and is slated for completion in early March—just as winter rains give way to spring sunshine, revealing Freedom Farms’ refreshed look. This project would not be possible without the ongoing support of our donors, and we’re deeply grateful for your role in helping Freedom Farms remain a safe haven for all.
