Moving animals from the South, where there are too many and not enough homes, to the Northeast, where they can get a second chance to be adopted, is crucial for saving lives. Now, our Hope Animal Sanctuary is going to be able to help even more with our new Hope Northbound transport van, which made its first run this March with more than two dozen animals on board.

Hope Northbound represents an exciting new chapter for Hope Animal Sanctuary. When Chris McLaughlin, founder of Animal Rescue Front, decided to retire, she turned to our trusted Operations Manager, Sharon Stone, with a heartfelt request: Would we step in to continue their vital transport program?

Having collaborated closely with Animal Rescue Front for many years, we knew their compassionate, efficient process mirrored our own commitment to animal welfare. We were honored and eager to assume responsibility, ensuring this life-saving lifeline would continue uninterrupted.

Today, two dedicated Hope Animal Sanctuary team members drive the specially equipped vehicle, which was transferred seamlessly from Animal Rescue Front, on a direct journey from rural Mississippi to the Northeast. Along the route, they deliver precious cargo to carefully selected rescue partners who welcome dogs and cats into their adoption programs, offering these animals the chance at loving forever homes they so richly deserve.

Our inaugural run of Hope Northbound departed Mississippi on March 9, 2026, carrying 34 dogs and cats. Each animal received thorough veterinary care, including comprehensive exams and parasite screening, to confirm they were healthy and ready for their fresh start.

In our remote, rural community, local adoptions are scarce, yet abandoned animals arrive in heartbreaking numbers. Without a robust transport program connecting us to high-demand areas in the Northeast, our capacity to save lives would be severely limited. This bridge of compassion is essential — transforming despair into hope, one journey at a time.

Our vision is bold: to steadily increase the number of animals we can transport northward. Every additional spot means one more life rescued from hunger, fear, and hardship.
