It was a horrible crime. In April 2015, a single photo was posted to Facebook of a woman smiling, holding an arrow, which was piercing the head of a beautiful, orange tabby cat. The caption of the photo read, "My first bow kill LOL. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it's (sic) head! Vet of the year award...gladly accepted" The woman smiling while holding the dead cat was Kristen Lindsey, a veterinarian from Texas. The cat she killed wasn't a feral tomcat as she claimed in her post. Instead, the cat named Tiger, was her neighbor's beloved cat.

That photo and the story of Tiger set off a firestorm for Lindsey. Calls for her to be fired from her job and to have her veterinary license revoked became louder and louder from around the globe. She was fired from her job as a veterinarian and the Texas Board of Veterinary Medicine moved to revoke her license for a period of five years, which actually ended up being only a one-year revocation and four years’ probation, which means she can practice under supervision only. She appealed that decision and just recently, she lost that appeal, finally putting an end to this awful case.

It's a hollow victory given the appallingly weak sentence. Tiger's life ended violently and the vicious woman who stole his life never served a day in jail and is free to once again practice veterinary medicine. Veterinarians swear an oath to protect animals and Lindsey violated that oath in the worst possible way. We're glad this case is finally closed, but can't help feeling that justice was never served for poor Tiger.

We believe she should've served a long jail sentence and that additionally she should never again be allowed to practice veterinary medicine. We’re sure you feel the same way.
