WATCH: Collaborating To Stop The Yulin Dog Meat Festival

Around the summer solstice, dogs and cats in China are stolen and brutally killed for the sick pleasure of international festival-goers at the gruesome Yulin Dog Meat Festival. We co-hosted two influential events to save dogs from this unimaginable cruelty and support Chinese animal activists. Watch us in action!

We’ve teamed up with Yoga Stops Yulin, the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, and the Animal Protection League of New Jersey to raise awareness about this gruesome annual festival, end it, and foster a world filled with compassion and empathy.

On June 11, we co-hosted a unique worldwide event Yoga Stops Yulin and tabled at the local event at the Rafi Lounge in Malibu, California, featuring yoga, sound bath meditation, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, vibrant vendor booths, and dog meat survivors. We were delighted to meet caring people who were passionate about saving dogs at our booth!

On June 20, we organized a virtual press conference hosted on UnchainedTV streaming television network during the opening of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China. We are urging officials in Paterson, New Jersey, to take a stand against the dog meat trade happening concurrently in their sister city of Yulin. Sister cities foster cultural and commercial ties including vital trade agreements.

We have sent a letter to Paterson’s Mayor and City Council asking them to help stop the killing. Our allies at the Animal Protection League of New Jersey are securing a meeting with the mayor’s office to discuss our plea to pass a citywide resolution to ban dog meat and write a letter of concern to Yulin officials.

Watch and share the press conference here.

Our Communications Director Fleur Dawes and dog meat survivor Judy offer three key actions you can take to help stop the dog meat trade in this short video.

If you live in Paterson, New Jersey, and want to help, please contact Mayor Andre Sayegh and ask him to:

  1. Pass a resolution: Introduce and pass a City Council resolution opposing the dog meat trade and asking Yulin to stop the festival, like the one passed by Los Angeles.

  2. Write a letter of concern: Write a formal letter on behalf of the citizens of Paterson expressing their profound concerns about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival.

Please remember that most Chinese people don’t eat dogs, and many are appalled by Yulin's annual dog slaughter. We stand in solidarity with China’s animal activists who go to great personal risk to rescue animals from slaughter.

If you love dogs, please consider our mass torture of playful and intelligent animals like pigs, cows, and chickens. You can make a difference to stop animal violence! Download your free Vegan Starter Guide.
