California Residents: Urgent! Support the Iconic African Species Protection Act!

Victory! This bill has passed the Senate, but we'll need your help when it hits the Assembly floor. Please stay tuned.

The California Senate may vote on the Iconic African Species Protection Act as early as this week if it gets enough public support. If passed, this Act will prohibit imports of eleven hunted species of African wildlife into California after January 1, 2019, but it is heavily opposed by the National Rifle Association and the trophy hunting lobby.

This landmark legislation is a first for the U.S.  California will become the first state to “prohibit the possession of the body parts of eleven endangered species, including lions, elephants, rhinoceroses and giraffes, that have been heavily targeted by trophy hunters and animal traffickers,” said the Act’s prime sponsor, Senator Stern who represents nearly a million Californians living in the 27th District. The time to get your senator to vote yes is right now. Call and send your email today!

The Trump Administration has decided not to protect African wildlife from trophy hunters who are willing to pay obscene amounts of money to kill and then ship the lifeless wild animal carcasses to their homes so that, for some bizarre reason, they can enjoy being reminded of what they’ve done. As a resident of California, you have a unique opportunity to shield African elephants, African lions, leopards, black rhinoceroses, white rhinoceroses, giraffes, Jentink’s duikers, plains zebras, mountain zebras, hippopotamuses, and striped hyenas from trophy hunters’ bullets and arrows.
