California Residents: Disappointing Changes Made to Bill to End New Factory Farms & Slaughterhouses

***BILL AND RALLY UPDATE***

We recently emailed our California supporters  and have an important update to share. Thank you for supporting California’s bill to enact a moratorium on new factory farms and slaughterhouses. Sadly, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian’s office has decided to shift AB 2764 into a study on animal agriculture instead. We are incredibly disappointed due to all of the hard work and support this bill has received from activists, organizations, and advocates around the world.

Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian represents Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, and Universal City.

Initially, AB 2764 intended to stop the construction and expansion of large slaughterhouses and factory farms in California, which had the potential to save a countless number of farmed animals from immense suffering and death. The enactment of this bill would have also served as a tremendous step towards reducing methane emissions and protecting vulnerable groups including workers and residents in rural communities who are impacted by factory farm pollution. While an unbiased study on animal agriculture may lead to a victory in the future, we are saddened to learn that the original moratorium will not move forward this session.

The updated bill will not be voted on until the April 27th hearing. However, we are still co-hosting a rally at the Agriculture Committee hearing on April 6th at 12:00pm to protest against factory farms. We must show up to let Assemblymember Nazarian and the rest of the Agricultural Committee know that constituents want an end to factory farming in the state.

Thank you for using your voice to speak for vulnerable animals whose cries go unheard. Together, we can make a difference.
