Help Us Ban Cruel Gestation Crates in New Jersey!

Look into her eyes. She is not a machine, but she is treated like one.
Pigs are highly social, sensitive and intelligent animals, yet many of these animals are forcibly impregnated and jailed inside cages no larger than their own bodies. The meat industry calls these cages “gestation crates.”
Right now, legislators are sitting on two important bills on both sides of the legislative process - New Jersey Senate Bill 161, and New Jersey Assembly Bill 3752. These are twin bills, and only one needs to get past all the hurdles in order to ban these cruel cages in New Jersey. We cannot let this opportunity slip!
Trapped inside these cages, a pregnant mother pig cannot move forward, she cannot move back, and she cannot turn around. On a cold concrete floor, she spends months staring ahead, with nothing provided for enrichment. In desperation, she will often bite the cage bars until her mouth is bloody, desparate to escape.
Gestation crates are now banned in nine U.S. states; let’s get them banned in New Jersey too! Each day that passes without this bill being acted upon, is a day too many for the suffering animals that are confined in these horrific cages.
