Rep. Steve “King” of Cruelty Defeated — For Now!

We are thrilled to announce that the 2018 Farm Bill (H.R. 2) which included a dangerous amendment by the animal hating Iowa Representative Steve King has died on the House floor with 198 for and 213 against votes.

King’s amendment within the Farm Bill had the power to obliterate all state animal welfare laws that impacted trade, meaning that hard-won legislation to protect animals suffering in factory farms, puppy mills, in dog fighting rings (and many more) could have been annihilated.

A huge thank you to all of you who phoned your representative asking them to defend the will of the people who have passionately fought and continue to fight for better state animal protection laws!

While this news accompanies a sigh of relief, we must stress that the fight is far from over. Our vocal opposition must continue to ensure the King Amendment is completely discarded during the upcoming revised versions of the Farm Bill, and we must also continue to fight the independently introduced bill The Protect Interstate Commerce Act of 2018 which the Farm Bill amendment’s wording was taken from in the first place!

Let’s keep up the pressure! If you haven’t already done so, please act today!
