Rescued by You!

Having the opportunity to save another being is something very special. Keep reading to learn how you can save farmed animals just like Julia, Louis, Marta, and Clarabelle.

Meet Julia (pictured above with her piglet, Seth). Julia once endured the horrific life of a breeding sow on a factory farm.

Mothers like Julia spend most of their lives confined to gestation crates —cages so small and narrow that they cannot turn around for months on end. These highly intelligent animals are driven crazy by this extreme confinement, suffering severe distress and dejection. Many bite the metal cages until their mouths are bloody, desperately trying to escape.

Julia gave birth shortly after she was rescued, and is now living happily at Farm Sanctuary with her beloved piglets. By refusing to buy meat products, you can save animals just like Julia.

Louis was born at a chicken egg hatchery. Unable to lay eggs, Louis was deemed worthless by the egg industry. Each year, millions of male chicks just like Louis are killed shortly after hatching by being thrown fully aware and conscious into an industrial blender, or suffocated in large plastic bags with thousands of other baby birds. Can you imagine a worse fate to endure than this? Thankfully, Louis was rescued and is now living freely at Sali Sanctuary. Like many birds, Louis enjoys foraging, exploring, and sunbathing. By refusing to buy any egg products, you can save baby birds from being blended alive, just like Louis.

Marta was placed into a baking tray at an oceanside restaurant in Italy when the owner noticed that she was still desperately trying to breathe.

Commercial fisheries often catch fish in trawling nets and dump them on board where they either slowly suffocate to death or they die from being gutted and skinned alive. Both are terribly slow and painful deaths that cause immense suffering.

Miraculously, Marta was still alive despite the fact she had been out of water for several hours. The owner felt a great empathy for Marta and rushed her back to the ocean to save her life. By refusing to buy seafood, you can save animals just like Marta.

Meet Clarabelle (pictured above with her calf, Valentine). Clarabelle was rescued from a dairy farm hour right before being boarded onto a slaughter truck. She was also heavily pregnant.

In the dairy industry, calves are torn away from their mothers shortly after birth to stop them from drinking their mom’s milk (so it can be sold to people). Cows are devoted and nurturing mothers who forge strong bonds with their calves. Many cry frantically for days after being separated, pleading for their babies to be returned. Terrified and alone, calves are cruelly deprived of their mother's comfort and are sold off to be slaughtered for veal or beef, or killed on the spot if there’s low demand. A very small percentage of female calves are kept alive on a surplus formula to be used as milk machines just like their mothers before them, but once she’s been used up, she too will be sent to a slaughterhouse.

Clarabelle gave birth to Valentine shortly after she was rescued. Today, they are happily living their days together at Edgar’s Mission sanctuary. By refusing to buy dairy products, you can save animals just like Clarabelle and Valentine.
