Urgent: Don't Let Greedy Beef Lobbyists Take Over California's Interests

Urgent: Don't Let Greedy Beef Lobbyists Take Over California's Interests

An appalling bill which would increase meat consumption and industrial farming if passed is rushing through California's legislature.

AB 243, a beef checkoff program bill, tore through the state's Assembly before any animal protection groups found out, and it's now on its way to the state's Senate Judiciary Committee for a hearing this Tuesday (tomorrow) July 11.

Checkoff programs are a form of generic advertising funded by a common agricultural industry. Generic ads like “Beef, It’s What’s for Dinner” are the result of checkoff programs.

At a time when more and more people are ditching meat to prevent animal suffering, improve their health, and reduce their impact on the environment, there simply cannot be a more backwards and negligent bill.

We must act now and stop AB 243 before it’s too late!

What YOU Can Do

Please Call Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, the Senate Judiciary Committee chair, at 916-651-4019 today before 5 pm PT.

You can simply say, “Beef checkoff programs create a conflict of interest in government. School nutrition, environmental, and animal welfare policies should be free of industry bias and industry incentives to sell more animal products. Please do all in your power to oppose AB 243.”
