WATCH: Mobilizing for World Vegan Month
World Vegan Month, celebrated every November, was created to amplify the vegan movement and its message — the principle that humans should live without exploiting other animals. It coincides with World Vegan Day on November 1, which marks the anniversary of the founding of The Vegan Society in 1944. Join our events and initiatives to promote veganism, including a virtual expert activist program and an alert to urge plant-based education and dining options in universities.
In Defense of Animals campaigners recently gave talks and presentations on vegan advocacy at the San Francisco World Vegan Festival, galvanizing attendees to speak up and take action for the animals.
On November 19, we are honored to welcome Dr. Faraz Harsini, the founder and CEO of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP), as our guest for a special online program. In conversation with our Farmed Animals Campaigner, Lia Wilbourn, Dr. Harsini will share why veganism is a moral urgency and how he’s training and connecting the next generation of vegan thought leaders in major universities across the U.S.
ASAP is a visionary organization that provides a unified infrastructure for effective vegan advocacy on college campuses, including education, career mentorship, and logistical support.
Mid-month, we are collaborating with ASAP to call on universities to implement 100% plant-based dining halls by 2028. This initiative also aims to educate the public about the benefits of plant-based diets while raising awareness of the ethical and environmental threats posed by animal agribusiness to the planet and its inhabitants. Additionally, we are promoting bold new ballot initiatives in California, Colorado, and Oregon that can catalyze significant change for animals.
Technological advancements and activism are revealing the brutal realities of industries that exploit and kill animals. Films like Dominion and Earthlings, which expose these truths, are being screened globally and are now available to watch for free online. More vegans are speaking up and getting active for animals and veganism is gaining more acceptance in mainstream culture.
We are living in a pivotal time to advance the vegan movement. Join us.
The meat, dairy, and egg industries exploit consumers' concern for animals by using deceptive marketing to portray the exploitation and killing of animals as ethical and humane. Humanewashing is a marketing scam to mislead consumers into believing animal products come from humanely treated animals, when exploitation and slaughter can never be humane.
